Reach for Rainbow 2026 - From Club Rainbow Parent to Fundraising Champion
For Omar Syakeer, every kilometre completed and every flight of stairs conquered represents more than a personal achievement. It is an opportunity to give back to a community that has supported his family through their journey.
A father, fitness enthusiast, and recreational runner, Omar is no stranger to setting goals and pushing himself beyond his limits.
"Running has become an important part of my life," he shared. "It helps me stay physically active while building mental resilience and discipline."
But when it comes to Reach for Rainbow, his motivation goes far beyond fitness. As the parent of a child of Club Rainbow (Singapore), Omar has witnessed firsthand the support that the organisation provides to children with chronic illnesses and their families.
"My son is a child of Club Rainbow, so I first heard about Reach for Rainbow through Club Rainbow's social media platforms and newsletters," he said. "As a parent, I have seen firsthand the support that Club Rainbow provides to families, which made me interested in participating and giving back in my own way."
Turning Gratitude into Action
This year marks Omar's third year participating in Reach for Rainbow as a Ralker (run and walk), and his commitment to the event remains as strong as ever.
"Knowing the positive impact Club Rainbow has on their children and their families inspired me to take part," he shared.
For Omar, Reach for Rainbow offers the perfect opportunity to combine two things that matter deeply to him: staying active and supporting a meaningful cause. When Club Rainbow introduced the climb category last year, Omar saw another opportunity to challenge himself while making a difference.
"Reach for Rainbow gave me the opportunity to support a cause that is very close to my heart while staying active. I also signed up for the climb category because I wanted to challenge myself physically and push beyond my comfort zone, all while supporting a meaningful cause."
A First Vertical Challenge to Remember
Last year's Climb for Rainbows was particularly memorable and meaningful for Omar because it was his first-ever vertical challenge. While he was familiar with running and endurance activities, taking on a stair-climbing challenge presented a completely different test. The climb pushed him beyond his comfort zone, testing both his physical endurance and mental determination.
"The biggest challenge was pushing through physical fatigue and moments of self-doubt, especially during the vertical climb."
Whenever those difficult moments surfaced, Omar reminded himself why he had signed up in the first place.
"I overcame these challenges by focusing on one step at a time and reminding myself why I was participating. Thinking about the children and families that Club Rainbow supports, and the purpose behind the event motivated me to keep going. Completing it gave me a great sense of accomplishment and motivated me to continue challenging myself."
This year, he is ready to take on an even bigger challenge as this year's climb category raises the bar to 40 storeys.
"I am looking forward to this year's event, especially with the challenge increasing to 40 storeys. It will be a tougher test of endurance and determination, but I am excited to take it on and be part of the event once again."
A Community United by Purpose
Beyond the physical challenge, one of Omar's strongest memories from Reach for Rainbow is the sense of community that surrounds the events.
"One of the most memorable aspects was seeing the strong sense of community among participants, volunteers, and supporters."
Whether participants are walking, running, climbing, fundraising, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, everyone plays a role in supporting Club Rainbow's children and their families.
During last year’s Climb for Rainbows, that shared purpose became even more meaningful.
"I remember the feeling of accomplishment after completing my first vertical challenge. Knowing that every step taken was helping to support Club Rainbow's children and families made the achievement even more meaningful."
Every Step Counts
For Omar, Reach for Rainbow represents much more than a fitness challenge.
"Reach for Rainbow represents resilience, community, and inclusivity."
One aspect he especially appreciates is the flexibility of the virtual format, which allows participants to complete the challenge at their own pace.
"The virtual format allows participants to complete the challenge at their own time and pace, making it possible for more people to get involved regardless of their fitness level or schedule."
That accessibility means anyone can be part of the movement, whether they are seasoned athletes or taking on their very first challenge.
"For me, it is an opportunity to stay active while giving back to an organisation that has supported my family."
Join the Journey
As someone who has experienced both the support of Club Rainbow and the fulfilment of participating in its fundraising events, Omar has a simple message for anyone considering Reach for Rainbow for the first time.
"Don't hesitate to join. You do not need to be an experienced runner or athlete to participate. Every step you take contributes to a meaningful cause. Whether you choose to walk, run, climb, fundraise, or donate, your support helps Club Rainbow continue empowering children with chronic illnesses and their families. Come with an open heart, enjoy the experience, challenge yourself, and be part of a community that is making a difference in the lives of children and families."
For Omar, every step is a way of saying thank you. And through Reach for Rainbow, those steps are helping to create brighter journeys for many more families to come.
