Celebrating Father’s Day (21 June 2026) with A Father's Promise: Walking Every Step with Love
For Mr Toh Jun Yu, fatherhood is not defined by grand celebrations or special occasions. It is found in the quiet, everyday moments of sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering commitment to his children.
Describing himself as "an introvert inside but extroverted on the outside", Jun Yu shares that life today revolves around responsibility and the promises he has made to his family. As a single father raising three children with medical conditions, his days are filled with balancing work, caregiving, and ensuring that his children have the support they need to thrive.
His daughter lives with a blood disorder that affects her body's ability to clot properly, resulting in symptoms such as easy bruising and prolonged bleeding. Meanwhile, his two sons are navigating eczema, a chronic skin condition that causes dry, inflamed, and intensely itchy skin.
Throughout their journey, Club Rainbow (Singapore) has been a source of encouragement and support.
"Club Rainbow has supported us mentally and provided social support for my kids and myself," he shares.
Despite the challenges, Jun Yu remains grounded by a simple but powerful motivation: his children.
"Duty as a father where I want my kids to grow up healthy and happy. Nothing means more than that to me."
Like many caregivers, personal time often takes a back seat. Long working hours are necessary to provide for his family, leaving little room for self-care.
"There is not much self-care or personal time. Most of the time I need to work long hours to provide financially for the whole family. I guess the only few times I get to rest is when I am sick," he says candidly.
Yet amid the responsibilities, there are moments that make everything worthwhile. For Jun Yu, some of his most treasured memories are the conversations he shares with his children.
"When they share their days in school or what happened in their daily life."
These everyday exchanges remind him of the bond they share and the trust they place in him.
When asked what Father's Day means to him, Jun Yu offers an honest reflection.
"Father's Day is a strange day for me as no one celebrates or greets me Happy Father's Day since I became a father."
His words shed light on a reality that many fathers may quietly experience — carrying the weight of responsibility without expecting recognition in return.
This Father's Day, Jun Yu hopes to encourage other fathers and father figures who may be facing their own challenges.
"Taking care of kids is not a burden. Being a single father is not easy as you have all kinds of people telling you that you cannot do this or that. But at the end of the day, if you think that you have done the best for your children, there is no need to care about what others think of you."
His message is one of perseverance, conviction, and love — a reminder that fatherhood is not measured by perfection, but by showing up day after day for the people who matter most.
As we celebrate Father's Day, we honour fathers like Jun Yu, whose quiet strength and steadfast dedication continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of their children.
